Do I Need A Tooth Extraction?

We go through life with a full set of strong, pearly white teeth. However, sometimes a tooth may be removed to treat an underlying dental problem. Our dentist may recommend extraction to correct a range of dental conditions, such as:

  • Your tooth is severely infected and may spread the infection to the surrounding teeth
  • Your tooth is damaged due to dental trauma or other severe injury
  • You’ve tried restorative procedures but your tooth hasn’t responded to treatment
  • Your teeth are crowded and your jaw doesn’t have enough room to accommodate them

No matter the reason, our experienced dental team will perform a tooth extraction to treat your symptoms and provide much-needed relief. We will do everything we can to save your tooth through restorative procedures, such as root canals, fillings, crowns, and other treatment options. If your tooth must be removed, you can trust our team to schedule your extraction as soon as possible and provide you with the gentle, supportive care you need.

What To Expect During Your Tooth Extraction

  • Pre-Extraction – First, our team will perform a dental exam and take X-rays to assess your overall condition above and below the gum line. Our doctor will plan your extraction and discuss your case with you, so that you know what to expect.
  • The Extraction Procedure – Our doctor will administer local anesthesia to numb your mouth and prevent any discomfort you may experience. We also offer laughing gas sedation to help you relax and put your mind at ease. Once you’re comfortable, the dentist will use an elevator tool to remove the fibers which attach your teeth to your jaw bone and gums. Next, our doctor will use another elevator to gradually make the tooth mobile in its socket. When the tooth has become sufficiently mobile, it will be extracted by using suitable forceps and applying an outward force.
  • Post-Extraction – Once the tooth is removed, our doctor will wash the socket with saline or distilled water to remove bacteria and debris. Finally, the socket will be squeezed, and you will be asked to bite on a clean gauze. This is done to stop bleeding and to promote clot formation.
